India T20I captain Shreyas Iyer has climbed to No. 7 in the ICC men's T20I batting rankings after his maiden hundred, while Rashid Khan has retaken the top bowling spot from Abrar Ahmed.
India T20I captain Shreyas Iyer has climbed to No. 7 in the ICC men's T20I batting rankings, ESPNcricinfo reported on Wednesday 7 October 2026. The jump comes after his maiden T20I century against West Indies. In the bowling list, Afghanistan's Rashid Khan has taken the No. 1 spot back from Pakistan's Abrar Ahmed.

The hundred that did it
Iyer scored 102 not out off 43 balls in the 1st T20I at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow on 6 October 2026. India chased down 172 and won by 8 wickets with 32 balls to spare, taking a 1-0 lead in the five-match series. In the previous ICC update in late September, Iyer was joint-22nd among T20I batters, so this is a rise of about 15 places.
Rashid back on top
Abrar Ahmed had been No. 1 among T20I bowlers with 736 rating points, one point ahead of Rashid Khan, according to the ICC's late September media release. He had ended Rashid's six-month stint at the top about two weeks ago. ESPNcricinfo's story today says Rashid has now reclaimed the position.
Why it matters
Iyer takes this form into the 2nd T20I in Ranchi on 9 October, with India 1-0 up. A No. 7 ranking also puts him in the mix in the race among India's T20I batters, which is worth watching over the rest of the series.
