Renshaw's century resurrects Australia after Mulder's four in Durban

Matt Renshaw reached his second Test hundred, almost ten years after his first, as Australia moved to 277 for 8 at lunch on day two in Durban. Wiaan Mulder has 4 for 51.

ESPNcricinfo reported on Saturday 10 October 2026 that Matt Renshaw has hit an unbeaten century to drag Australia to 277 for 8 by lunch on the second day of the first Test against South Africa at Kingsmead. Wiaan Mulder removed both men who fell in the morning, but Renshaw stood firm and finished the session on 102.

Renshaw's century after almost a decade

Renshaw began the day on 46 and brought up his fifty with a boundary off the second ball he faced. From there he kept the scoreboard moving on a sunny Saturday, on a pitch that looked a little friendlier for batting than it had on the opening day.

The hundred is only his second in Test cricket. The first was 184 against Pakistan at the Sydney Cricket Ground in the 2016/17 season, so the wait has lasted close to ten years. Now 30 and playing his 16th Test, Renshaw has made this one from No. 5, and he was still there at the break with 102 off 218 balls.

He and captain Pat Cummins put on 86 for the seventh wicket, a record seventh-wicket stand for Australia against South Africa in Durban. Cummins made 43 off 98 balls with six fours before his innings ended. After that, Renshaw found a partner in Nathan Lyon, who was 7 not out off 34 balls as the pair batted through to lunch.

Mulder's double strike in the morning session

Mulder was the pick of the home attack. Cummins was dismissed in the first over with the second new ball, edging Mulder to Aiden Markram at second slip. Mitchell Starc then lasted only a short time before Mulder bowled him for 6, the fourth wicket of the innings for the all-rounder.

Australia added 90 runs for those two wickets in a long morning session. On day one, Mulder, Marco Jansen and Anrich Nortje had taken two wickets each, and Mulder has now gone past them with figures of 4 for 51.

What comes next after lunch

Australia will push on towards 300 after the break, with Renshaw looking to build further and Lyon in support. South Africa need two more wickets to finish the innings, and Mulder will be chasing the first five-wicket haul of his Test career.
