A first for Mumbai, a second for the WPL
The deal is only the second trade in WPL history. The first saw Royal Challengers Bengaluru bring in Danni Wyatt-Hodge from UP Warriorz. Mumbai had never used the trade window before this one.
The first five-for in WPL history
Norris played for Delhi Capitals in the inaugural WPL in 2023, where she was the first player from an Associate nation picked at a WPL auction. She also became the first bowler to take a five-wicket haul in the competition, with 5 for 29 against RCB at the Brabourne Stadium. Her victims included Ellyse Perry, Heather Knight and Richa Ghosh.
UP Warriorz signed her at the mega auction before WPL 2025, but she withdrew to play for USA at the Women's T20 World Cup Qualifier. She now joins her second Mumbai side of the year: she played for MI London in the women's Hundred, with four wickets in six outings at an economy of 7.83.
Why her passport matters
As an Associate-nation player, Norris lets Mumbai Indians field five overseas players in the XI. The WPL rule allows five overseas players when at least one of them is from an Associate nation, and otherwise the limit is four.
Around the league
Elsewhere, RCB have released Grace Harris and Linsey Smith while Ellyse Perry has confirmed her availability, and Luke Williams takes over as Mumbai Indians' head coach in the WPL. WPL 2027 runs from 14 January to 7 February 2027, with the player auction on 28 October 2026 at the Grand Hyatt Kochi.
