Prasidh Out With Hamstring Strain as Kamboj Earns Final ODI Call-Up

Prasidh Krishna's hamstring strain in Guwahati has ended his West Indies series and handed Anshul Kamboj a place in India's squad for the final ODI in New Chandigarh on Saturday; Kamboj left the India A tour game in Puducherry mid-match to answer the call.

ESPNcricinfo reports that Anshul Kamboj has replaced Prasidh Krishna in India's ODI squad for the third and final game against West Indies, in New Chandigarh on Saturday 3 October. The swap was forced by a hamstring strain Prasidh picked up in the second ODI in Guwahati on 30 September: five overs, 45 runs, the wicket of Keacy Carty in the fifth, and he was off the field by the 31st over, taking no further part in the game. He has since returned to Bengaluru and could be a doubt for the Ranji Trophy opening round from 11 October.

Five overs and gone

The Guwahati game was a run-fest: West Indies posted 405 for 7 from their 50 overs, and India still chased it down in 43.3 overs to seal the series 2-0. ESPNcricinfo notes the pitch has been widely panned since. Prasidh's exit after five overs left India a bowler short and pushed the part-timers into service, with Naman Dhir's off-spin filling the gap. India had won the opener in Thiruvananthapuram on 27 September.

Kamboj's moment

Kamboj was on duty for India A in their four-day game against Australia A in Puducherry when the call came. He took three wickets in the first four-dayer, three more in Australia A's first innings of the second game, then bowled just two overs in their second innings before leaving the squad. He has never played an ODI: 35 List A matches, 56 wickets at 22.41, and a Test debut in England in 2025 is his only India cap so far. A white-ball debut would be a genuine first.

The pace puzzle

India's squad planning is stretched across teams at the moment: Jasprit Bumrah is at the Asian Games in Japan, and the other pace options in this ODI squad are Mohammed Siraj, Auqib Nabi and Gurnoor Brar. The series is already decided 2-0, but India will want the clean sweep before the T20I series starts next week. Reports suggest Siraj, who sat out the first two ODIs, could come back into the side for the decider; for now that is a possibility, not a confirmed XI.
