Ranchi produced 501 runs
The second T20I in Ranchi was a batting carnival. India posted 249 for 5, with Sanju Samson making 82 and Tilak Varma 44, but West Indies reached 252 for 4 to win by six wickets. Shai Hope finished unbeaten on 102 off 45 balls and Sherfane Rutherford hit 84 off 37, and the two shared a stand of 120.
It was West Indies' highest successful chase in T20Is and the highest total ever made against India in the format. The match aggregate of 501 runs in 38.3 overs is the second highest in T20Is, according to ESPNcricinfo. Every game on the tour so far, three ODIs and two T20Is, has gone to the side batting second, and dew played its part in Ranchi.
India took the opening T20I in Lucknow on 6 October by eight wickets. West Indies were bowled out for 171 and India chased it down, with Shreyas Iyer unbeaten on 102.
Kuldeep versus Rutherford in the middle
ESPNcricinfo picks out Kuldeep Yadav against Rutherford as the contest to watch between the powerplay and the death. In Ranchi, Kuldeep took India's only wicket outside the powerplay but was expensive. Rutherford went after him before eventually falling to him. Recent form guides show India with one defeat in their last five T20Is (L W W W W, most recent first) and West Indies alternating (W L W L W).
Team news and Indore conditions
India are expected to make few changes and to stay with three specialist bowlers, a plan linked to the dew. The one possible switch is Nitish Kumar Reddy replacing Shivam Dube. The probable side has Abhishek Sharma, Samson, Ishan Kishan, captain Iyer, Tilak, Naman Dhir, Reddy or Dube, Axar Patel, Kuldeep, Mayank Yadav and Arshdeep Singh. West Indies may well keep the same XI after Ranchi, led by Hope as captain and wicketkeeper, with Kamil Pooran, Shimron Hetmyer, Rovman Powell, Rutherford, Romario Shepherd, Roston Chase, Shamar Springer, Akeal Hosein, Shamar Joseph and Gudakesh Motie.
Indore is a true, high-scoring surface with short boundaries. Recent ODIs there produced totals from the 330s to the 390s, and in T20s at the venue a total of 200 or more has been defended every time it has been breached. The forecast for Sunday is a high of 34C and a low of 17C, with some dew possible in the evening.
