Kishan carries India
Ishan Kishan made 80 not out from 46 balls, with 4 fours and 5 sixes, anchoring the innings while Sri Lanka's spinners kept striking at the other end. He brought up his fifty with a six and took charge of the death overs. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, the 15-year-old picked to open, made a brisk 38 off 21, and Washington Sundar finished unbeaten on 7 off 3 with a six in the final over as India closed on 169 for 7.
Sri Lanka's most disciplined bowler was captain Sahan Arachchige with 2 for 28, and Tharindu Ratnayake took 2 for 32. Both openers fell inside the first three overs, but Kishan and Sooryavanshi's stand of 35 kept India moving before the middle order wobbled.
45 all out
Sri Lanka's chase never got started. Jasprit Bumrah struck twice in the opening burst, having Sineth Jayawardena leg before and Sohan de Livera caught behind, and the innings fell apart around them. Nuwanidu Fernando's 15 was the top score. Three batters were run out, and Axar Patel, Abhishek Sharma and Washington Sundar shared five wickets between them. 45 beats Sri Lanka's previous lowest T20I total of 77, made against South Africa in New York in 2024.
India vs Pakistan for gold
India will meet Pakistan in the gold-medal match on Saturday 3 October, back at the same ground. Pakistan beat Bangladesh by six wickets in the first semi-final, a rain-shortened 13-over game in which Bangladesh made 111 for 7 before Abdul Samad and Mohammad Nawaz finished the chase.
