Two wickets before a run
The tone was set in the first five balls. Jasprit Bumrah bowled Test lengths and removed Sineth Jayawardena leg before and Sohan de Livera caught behind without conceding a run: the first time in a men's T20I that India has taken two wickets before a run was scored. Bumrah finished with 2 for 7 in two overs. Lasith Croospulle was run out soon after, and Axar Patel struck twice in an over to leave Sri Lanka five down inside four overs.
Spin to win
India picked four spinners in their XI and Sri Lanka three, their first action of the competition after the quarter-finals were rained out. The spinners bowled 149 of the 179 balls in the match, 83 percent, taking 12 wickets with 73 dot balls at an economy of 6.56. Axar Patel bowled 14 dots on his way to 2 for 8, Abhishek Sharma took 2 for 2 from just five balls, and Washington Sundar picked up one wicket. India finished the game with a team hat-trick, and three Sri Lankan batters were run out, two of them top-four.
Kishan's record 80 not out
Kishan's unbeaten 80 is the highest score by an Indian batter at No. 5 or lower in T20Is, breaking Manish Pandey's 79 not out against South Africa in 2018. His 33-ball fifty came in the 17th over with a six, and in the same over Nuwanidu Fernando dropped him on 56. India hit four sixes and four fours in the last eight overs, every one of them from Kishan's bat except the final six, hit by Washington Sundar. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, 15, made 38 off 21 at the top.
First India-Pakistan final of 2026
The gold-medal match on Saturday 3 October is the first India vs Pakistan final this year, with India defending the title they won in Hangzhou. Pakistan reached it by beating Bangladesh by six wickets in a rain-shortened 13-over semi-final: Towhid Hridoy's 42 lifted Bangladesh to 111 for 7, and Abdul Samad's unbeaten 30 off 15 balls finished the chase of 112 alongside Mohammad Nawaz.
Draft the XI that chases 14-0
India's attack turned 170 into a mountain. In BuildXI you build the side that does the demolishing: spin eleven real IPL squads from 2008 to 2025, take one player from each, and play a full season with the side you end up with. The target is 14-0: fourteen league games, fourteen wins.
