How the day unfolded
Australia lost captain Matthew Lough to Priyanshu Singh in the second over, and Hayden Barbulovic was caught behind off Mohit Ulva in the fifth. Then Baloda took over. Eli Brain fell lbw, and in Baloda's very next over Neel Patel, who made 31, was stumped. Blake Cattle nicked one to Aayan Akram, and Zed Hollick was caught behind off Baloda to leave Australia six down in the 21st over.
Charlie Henderson and Jacob Pietz then steadied things with a 70-run stand for the seventh wicket, lifting Australia from 65 for 6. Baloda broke it by bowling Pietz for 26, and Akram removed Henderson for 37. Baloda cleaned up the tail, with Thomas Vaseo caught and bowled and Patrick Sullivan stumped, to finish with six. Akram ended with 2 for 45 from 11 overs, and wicketkeeper Abhipray Biswas was busy behind the stumps.
India's reply was less smooth. Lakshya Raichandani was caught behind off fast bowler Thomas Vaseo for 1 in the seventh over, and Sagar Virk was lbw to legspinner Spencer Green for 16. Kushagra Ojha (13 not out off 28) and captain Yashbardhan Chauhan (7 not out off 11) saw out the day.
What it means
India lead the two-match Youth Test series 1-0 after winning the first Test by an innings, set up by Raichandani's double century of 240. A win here would seal the series. With Australia bowled out cheaply and only 136 to find, India hold the better hand going into day two.
- Baloda took 6 for 32, with Akram (2 for 45), Priyanshu Singh and Ulva sharing the rest.
- Henderson (37), Neel Patel (31) and Pietz (26) were Australia's top scorers.
- India are 38 for 2, with Ojha and Chauhan at the crease.
