Aliss Al Islam earns first ODI call-up as Litton Das leads Bangladesh in UAE tri-series

The BCB has named a 16-man ODI squad for the tri-series in the UAE. Mystery spinner Aliss Al Islam is the new face, Litton Das returns as captain, and Nahid Rana is left out as he recovers from a side strain.

ESPNcricinfo reported on Saturday 10 October 2026 that the Bangladesh Cricket Board has announced a 16-man squad for the ODI tri-series in the United Arab Emirates, where Bangladesh will face Afghanistan and Zimbabwe. Litton Das leads the side, and 29-year-old mystery spinner Aliss Al Islam gets his first ODI call-up.

Aliss Al Islam gets his first ODI call-up

Aliss has not yet played an ODI. His only international appearance so far is a single T20I at the Asian Games in Japan earlier this month, so this selection is a step up on the back of domestic form rather than a long run in the national side.

His List A numbers explain the interest: 35 wickets in 19 matches at an average of 17.05 and an economy rate of 4.05. He often shares the new ball, which gives Bangladesh an option to use spin in the first Powerplay if the conditions in the UAE suit it.

Litton Das returns as ODI captain

Litton was appointed captain by the BCB in July this year, taking over from Mehidy Hasan Miraz, and he now leads the ODI side as well. He has impressed recently as T20I captain. Mehidy has been given a break from leadership so that he can concentrate on his all-round game, and he stays in the squad as a player.

Hasan Mahmud is the other player coming back in. Parvez Hossain Emon makes way, and so does Nahid Rana, who is still recovering from a side strain. Rana last played competitive cricket in July 2026 and has missed the Test series in Australia, the Asian Games and the ongoing one-off Test against Afghanistan.

Fixtures and what the squad says about planning

Bangladesh open against Zimbabwe on 17 October in Abu Dhabi. Afghanistan play Zimbabwe in Abu Dhabi on 19 October, Afghanistan meet Bangladesh in Sharjah on 21 October, and the final is in Sharjah on 23 October.

The group shows a clear balance. The pace unit is Taskin Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman, Hasan Mahmud and Shoriful Islam, while the spin options are Mehidy, Rishad Hossain, Tanvir Islam and Aliss. With Rana being managed carefully ahead of the all-format tour of South Africa next month, the selectors appear to be keeping him fresh for that trip.
