A quarter of a century at Hampshire
Adams played for Hampshire from 2002 to 2018 and was club captain from 2012 to 2015. When he retired as a player in 2018 he moved straight into coaching, first with the second team and then as batting coach. He was stand-in head coach for the 2025 Metro Bank One-Day Cup, when Hampshire reached the final.
His departure comes after a hard season for the club. Hampshire lost the T20 Blast final this year, finished bottom of County Championship Division One and were relegated. Only three batters, Jake Lehmann, Nick Gubbins and Ben Brown, reached 500 Championship runs. Adams said he had been lucky to fulfil a dream and would follow Hampshire for the rest of his life.
Next chapter in Tasmania
Adams already knows the setup in Tasmania. He has worked the last two Big Bash League seasons as an assistant coach with the Hobart Hurricanes.
Cricinfo reported the move, but the exact title of his new role has not yet been confirmed by Cricket Tasmania. He will relocate to Australia with his family.
